Hi all, does anybody know how I would get to Oberstdorf in Bavaria from Garmisch-Partenkirchen? Would it be easier to get a train straight to Munich and backtrack down to oberstdorf, or would I change trains in some other small town? Any help much appreciated:-)

There used to be a bus from Garmisch to Oberstdorf, I used to go on it purely for the scenery, but unfortunately it doesn,t do that route any more. I think you have to go to Munich by train and change for O,dorf, if you could look at Deutsche Bahn website and type in Garmisch and oberstdorf, remembering there is more than 1 town with this name, you should get the most practical route.

Had a look at Deutsche Bahn and the place to change on the 1004 train was Munich Pasing,quite a busy station on the outskirts of Munich, also use a Bavaria Card as there is no need to pay the full fare, the trains are only regional in any case.

I agre the bus doesn't run anymore. it used to take about 4 hours leaving at 08.00 but even then there was nothing back the same day. Try the RVO (Regionalverkehr Oberbayern) website to see if it's possible to get there by changing at Fussen. Fussen is 2 hours away by bus and I think that is a twice a day service only if it still runs.
