www.nationalrail.co.uk gives you train timetables and fares.

Fares and journey times vary according to day/time/train. From around 3 and half hours to around 2hrs 15 mins. 'Cheap day return' fares from around 47GBP, depending on the above criteria. Buying your ticket on the day will be more expensive than buying it advance (from the station, unless you have a UK address in which case try www.thetrainline.com).

Train will be quicker than coach, but coach will be cheaper(probably).

www.nationalexpress.com for coaches. Frequent coaches, take around 3 and a half hours (but remember they can get stuck in traffic). Fares are on offer at the moment from 10/12GBP return.

The train from Nottingham goes in to St Pancras in London and its quite easy to get to Paddington on the Circle Line from there. Have a look a www.midlandmainline.co.uk to see times and any offer prices etc. The journey is less than 2 hours. Much longer by coach - cheaper but I not recommended personally if you can afford the train.

You are right about the train times........don't know why it told me 3 and a half hours (unless it was Sunday/Bank hol service). Seem to vary between just under and just over 2 hours, depending.

Thanks for your reply.

Appreciate more specific information. Where's the exact bus station near innkeeper's lodge or university of nottingham which I should catch the coach and which coach would take me direct or nearest to my hotel (seymour) near paddington station at london.

You will get the National Express coach from Broadmarsh Bus Station in the centre of Nottingham.

Putting the postcode of the bus station (NG1 7LS) into www.streetmap.co.uk and clicking the 'post code' button will provide you with a street map of the city.

You will probably have to get a bus (or maybe a taxi; there may not be a bus route here) from your hotel into the city centre, as the hotel is a couple of miles outside the city at junction 25 of the M1. The hotel can advise you about this if you email them.

From the university, you will have to get a bus (or taxi if you want) into the city centre. Details are on this page; which bus you get depends on which part of the university you are at.

http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/current/transport.phtml

The bus driver will tell you how to get to Broadmarsh bus station if he/she does not actually stop there, but I suggest you print off the street map before you come anyway.

Hold on ! The hotel isn't at Junction 25 of the M1, it's on Derby Road near the University campus and Wollaton Hall.

Nottingham City Transport buses 35 and 36 (very frequent) leave the city centre from the Market Square (Angel Row) and pass the hotel - known locally as 'The Priory'. Note that these buses require exact fare (no change given), and the adult fare is £1.40 each way.

Train fares Nottingham to London are as cheap as £7 single - go on the trainline website and make sure that when you get to the fares page you click to see single fares. The more in advance you are, the better the chance of a low fare.
