| Calgary | Import Goods Posted: Sat August 25, 2007 02:27 AM UTC
Looking for stores or shops that sell import arts and crafts, similar to Pier 1 but cheaper. I know there's Ten Thousand Villages but any other stores in Calgary worth checking out?

Check out the Asian mall, called Pacific Place. There might be some stuff there, but there's a lot of tacky items as well, so you'll have to glean. Also, Homesense has an excellent collection of items, but being a discount store, it's the luck of the draw. Try Ikea as well.

The Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) runs stores similar to Ten Thousand Villages. I know there is one in Calgary (or at least there used to be) in the Marlborough area. I have only ever shopped in the stores in Lethbridge and Regina, so I can't speak for the type of merchandise available in the Calgary store. I see from their website that the store is billed as a "thrift store", so it may not have the type of stuff you are interested in, but I suppose it's at least worth a phone call. Here's their contact info:

Okay..... I stand (sort of) corrected. In reviewing the MCC website further, I see that Ten Thousand Villages is the arts & craft store run by MCC. When I lived in Lethbridge and Regina, the store was just called the MCC - I had no idea they had changed the name to TTV, I thought TTV was run by another agency. Sorry, I guess my response was no help to you whatsoever!
