Antigua Guatemala Antigua rainfall....?
Posted: Fri August 24, 2007 04:56 AM UTC
I'm VERY confused about the rainfall in Antigua. My husband and I are (were?) planning to be there for two months...October and November. We expected afternoon rain (several hours in the afternoon, maybe every other day). But we've just checked out some weather sites, and they seem to agree that there are 35-50 INCHES of RAIN each month during the wet or green season. That seems a bit overwhelming! How would you go about your life with that much rain???
Appreciate hearing any replys. Thanks!

was just in antigua a couple of weeks ago. It was cloudy much of the time, but quite pleasant and it rained breifly several days int he afternoon. One of the drawbacks of the rainy season is not so much the rain, but the clouds covering the volcanoes and lessening hte dramatic views.

The statistics your citing are skewed due to the possability of a major hurricane or tropical storm [which have the potential of dumping up to 12 inches of rain in a 24 hour period]barreling down on Guatemala.Oct and Nov are in fact at the end of the rainy season, and amongst the most pleasant times to travel in Guat,Antigua itself is in a sheltered valley surrounded by volcanoes, the air visibility is highest at the end of the rainy season,as smoke from the slash and burn planting cycle is not yet obscuring the volcano views.
