| Copenhagen | Renting bicycles Posted: Thu August 23, 2007 07:05 PM UTC
Hello,
I will be visiting Copenhagen in September. I am interested in renting a bicycle for at most 4 days. Where in Copenhagen will I be able to rent bikes, and not burn a hole in my pocket. I am a student and am literally on a shoe string budget. I would also like someone to suggest good places to see and eat. Of course there is the usual Tivoli, little mermaid, palaces etc. But is there something else in Copenhagen that I should not miss and are not mentioned in the guide books? Thanks, Aarthi |

If you're interested in space and the like you could visit Tycho Brahe Planetarium. Read more about it on my Copenhagen page.
To eat, I'd recommend Restaurant Vesuvio. Great pasta place! (coming up on my Cph page). Sorry I don't know about bike renting.

The best way to get to know what the price of renting a bike would be is to go to the tourist information centre, one is nearby the central station and Andersen Blvd, and just ask. They have a lot of offers from bike rental agencies there, I'm sure some of them would interest you. You could also rent a city bike, you pay 20 krones and use the bike as much as you want and get your money back if you leave it in a proper place.
I don't know any good and cheap restaurants in Copenhagen, perhaps they don't exist :) that's why I suggest trying Danish hot dogs. In my opinion they are not very tasty but who knows maybe you'll like them and they are of course cheap. Interesting places? You'll find lots of them yourself just strolling down the streets of Copenhagen. This place is like Amsterdam, it has its unique atmosphere. I'm sure you'll love it. Femaletraveller

I don't know about "not mentioned in the guidebooks as most of my tips are definately in the books...
I would definately go to see the Louisiana contemporary art museum in Humlebaek (can be combined with a visit to Hamlet's castle in nearby Helsingoer - "Elsinore" as a daytrip) which is very good and not just for art buffs but everyone finds a favourite style since they have paintings, sculptures, photo and so on. Great location in a park by the sea too and for you with your railcard it is cheap to reach. In Copenhagen itself, I'd go for a canal boat trip as they are good value for money and take you through some main areas like Christianshavn. You also get to see the Little Mermaid so that you don't have to walk all the way out to where she is later and wonder "is this it?" :))) Cheap eating can be found along the main pedestrian street and elsewhere as long as you can stand shawarma and other Middle Eastern fast food. Denmark has the good thing of having food standards authority documents on the walls in restaurants with smilies indicating a clean kitchen - just look for them :) I can buy you a Danish lunch if you pop by my office :) I work near one of the most touristy parts of the city. Anyone else interested in a mini VT lunch? If so you'll have to pay for your own food :)))

I went to the top of a church that gives you a view of the city. It's 25 Kroners. (US5$ ?) I liked it, here's my tip and info on it: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/9aaa5/27987/4/
The free bikes in the city are good enough to get you around in a small area, but if you ride for more than a few hours, your knees will tire out. They aren't all that easy to find either. But if you just want one to get around town, to go out to Little Mermaid, etc...they will do fine. I never made it to "RizRaz", a vegetarian all u can eat place, but I hear it is nice.....next time!
