Are motorcycle allowed to drive the 17 mile drive?

I was there a year ago and at that point motorcycles were prohibited from 17 mile drive. I can't see why this would change as the idea is to keep it a quiet area for wild life, residents and visitors alike.

I agree... motorcycles are not allowed on 17 Mile Drive. But guess what? You can see beautiful unspoiled shoreline that is not littered with gigantic multi-million dollar mansions by driving south on Highway 1 from Carmel, or even driving along Asilomar Beach in Pacific Grove. If you really like the big mansions just drive through Carmel along the street named Scenic Drive that follows the Carmel Beach (also free!). If you really want to see parts of 17 Mile Drive, then you can park along Sunset Drive in Pacific Grove and walk into Spanish Bay (maybe 1/2 mile).
There are so many similar, less touristy, and more scenic options that you shouldn't feel bad about missing this $9 drive with thousands of other tourists. Joe
