| Denver | Where to stay for girl's (Mom's) getaway weekend Posted: Thu August 23, 2007 02:41 AM UTC
Myself and 2 girlfriends will be coming to Denver for a weekend in Sept/Oct. Im wondering if anyone could suggest a good hotel in a safe area to stay in (preferrably under $200/night) We like shopping/sightseeing/comedy clubs/jazz bars/touristy things...we will not have a car so somewhere withing walking distance would be perfect...thanks in advance!

Under $200 will be pretty easy Downtown, which is where you want to be if you don't have a car. Marriott brand has a Courtyard, Residence Inn and TownePlace Downtown that'll be below $200. Hyatt also has a couple of nice properties Downtown in that range, and there's also a Holiday Inn.
17th Street is the big shopping corridor and pedestrian mall. There's a free shuttle that runs from end-to-end. The western end is known as Lower Downtown ("LoDo") and is the traditional bar/nightclub area. Lots of good restaurants down there as well. But don't get a hotel in LoDo. Downtown's also the hub for the light rail, although it doesn't go to all of the tourist sites. The alternative walkable area is Cherry Creek, but there's not much nightlife there and it doesn't have the light rail.
