Éze Getting to Eze from Villefranche

From Villefranche to Eze
Posted: Wed August 22, 2007 09:25 AM PDT
We will be on a cruise in October that will be stopping in Villefranche. We have
never been to France before and only have 1 day to see a few things. One of the
places that seemed very interesting was Eze. What is the best way to get from
Villefranche to Eze. My husband,14 year old son and I will be going on this
trip. Does the train go close to Eze and if so what one. Is a bus a better
option?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We really don't want to do the tours from
the ship. We like to explore on our own.

Hello - yes Eze is a lovely place to visit and it should not be too crowded in October, The exotic garden is interesting at any time - last time we visited some of the more tender plants had "fleece coats" on but that was in February! The train would stop at Eze bord du mer and it is quite an uphill walk from there but you might be able to catch a bus near the station to take you up the hill. The road distance from Villefranche to Eze is about 5/6 miles just to give you an idea.Have fun!

You really do not want to go up that path. We took it down, just to say we did and it was shear folly.

As cheap as I am (even with other people's money) this is one of the few times that I would say, "Take a taxi". Getting one back is sometimes hard. The cafe at the stop will call one for you. But even then, you might have to wait.

Even if only to have an expensive drink, have it on the patio of the restaurant that you will see below, from the cactus garden on top the hill. I forget the name, but it's something like "Cafe Eze"

The tours do have a bad habit of showing up there though. They are easy to spot because of "cruise wear" and shoes never meant to climb the uneven walks. Run, don't walk the other direction.

Time spent in the small church and the cemetary behind is well spent.

hi, Eze is worth the trip. Since you're on a cruise and time is counted, if your cruise ship offers an excursion to Eze and back, I suggest you take it. Once up in Eze, explore as you like and just make sure to be back at your vehicle in time to get back to the ship.

I don't do tours either, but in this case, I'd take advantage of any arranged transportation from Villefranche to Eze and back. Save your time to relax, enjoy the view.
Have a great trip!
