What's the cost for a local bus ride and do you have to have exact change? Whats the cost for a Waikiki to the airport ride?

Check www.thebus.org or please call the Information Office at (808) 848-5555 (daily from 5:30a.m. to 10:00p.m.)
The bus fare is $2.00 unless it was changed recently. Bus drivers don't carry change so you have to have the exact change.

This year February the bus fare was still USD 2. (If you want to transfer just ask for a transferticket, the price remains the same). And you have to have the exact amount.
You cannot take the city bus "The Bus" from/to the airport to/from Waikiki if you have big luggage or suitcase. The cheapest way is to take the Roberts Hawaii bus from the airport to Waikiki. A return fare is about (forgot the exact price sorry) USD 16. For a ride back from you Waikiki hotel to the airport just call the number on the ticket 24 hours in advance and make the reservation for the pick up.

Plus many of the hotel's offer free airport shuttle.
You can bring some baggage on the bus - here's a list of what they allow: http://www.thebus.org/CS/RulesReg.asp As of August 15, 2007 anyway, one-way fare is $2 for adults ($1 for disabled), $1 for seniors (65 and up) and for youth ages 6 through 17, and it’s a free ride for keiki (children) under 6. Each fare includes one free transfer with a two-hour limit, provided you’re going in the same direction. However, depending on your itinerary, you may do better with the $20 four-day visitor’s pass ($10 for ages 6 to 17 and disabled, $5 for seniors). And then you don’t have to think about getting change beforehand either. You can purchase a pass at any of the Wiki Wiki convenience stores as well as other locations. The Bus' fare page has more info: http://www.thebus.org/Fare/FarePasses.asp P.S. I actually brought home a Christmas tree on The Bus when I lived in Waimanalo (country side, Windward). Another thing I love about The Bus is you get to enjoy the view! And learn some Pidgin :-) Aloha Cindy www.CoconutRoads.com "Taking you to the Heart of Hawaii"
