Stuttgart Baden-Württemberg Rail Pass ?
Posted: Tue August 21, 2007 05:51 AM UTC
Myself and my wife will be in the German State of Baden-Württemberg for 24Sept2007 till 09Oct2007. We will be several days in Sindelfingen at the beginning of our trip and several days at the end of our trip. We would like cheap rail travel during that time within Baden-Württemberg. Will someone please advise what would be best for us purchase since we will travel often by Rail from city to city within Baden-Württemberg. I have heard that is some form of a ticket that will allow one to use all forms of public transportation in Baden-Württemberg at a special discounted price. Thanks

Baden-Württemberg Ticket EUR 27,00
A mini group day ticket covering all local trains and nearly all other local public transport in Baden-Württemberg.
Good for 2-5 persons. Valid
Mo-Fr from 9am till 3am next day
Sa,So from midnight till 3am next day

Also some places outside Baden-Württemberg are covered, e.g. Basel, Lindau
However only the local trains to/from these places. Not the other local public transport there.

For a trip inside a regional Verkehrsverbund (local public transport network) the mini group day (or 24-hours) tickets are the better deal.
E.g. from Sindelfingen to Stuttgart or Esslingen or Ludwigsburg you can use a VVS mini group day ticket (EUR 14,30).

For planing you can use the DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e
and select as means of transport "only local transport" if you like to use the Baden-Württemberg Ticket.

Yes, the Länder tickets (state tickets) are great value, I bought these when I was in Germany last year, the only things to remember are that only able to be used after 9a.m. on weekdays and not valid in IC or EC trains, i.e. the fast express trains. As Abalada said, you only need the 1 ticket betwen the 2 of you and I think it,s about Euro 25. You just buy one each day that you wish to travel.
To save time I printed off a lot of the train timetables from home, go into Deutsche Bahn and select international guests for English, and follow the prompts.
