You don't say which of Rome's airports you are arriving at, but in any case the answer is no, you need to get from the airport to Roma Termini, from which there are about 4 direct trains a day to Bari Centrale, e.g.:
dep. 08:52 arr. 14:46 (5h54) dep. 13:38 arr. 18:15 (4h37) If, as is most likely, you are arriving at Fiumicino you just take the Leonardo Express from the airport to Termini and change there for the Bari train. As for getting to Sicily, there are ferries from Bari to Corfu and Albania but I don't know of any to Sicilian ports. You can fly from Bari to Palermo with Air One, it's not too expensive, or you could take trains there via Caserta and Salerno (long journey but perhaps you would want to stop off en route); the train from Salerno is the one from Naples mentioned here http://insurance.essentialtravel.co.uk/tg-europe/i

I just found a nice new tool that might interest you, go to http://www.trenitalia.com/en/viaggia_treno/index.html, click on "Go to ViaggiaTreno" and then "entra", and you will get a map which will help you understand (and even find, by clicking on the names of cities) the railway routes between Bari and Sicily. However, for railway timetables you may find it easier to use http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en, which covers the whole of Europe.
