Hello. My husband and i are planning to go to Christchurch early next year and saw several very good deals from jetstar and virgin blue. Can anybody give inputs regarding reliability (schedules) on these 2 airlines and if they're really good bargains? Also is it better to fly into christchurch from melbourne or from sydney? Thanks.

Hi, The jetstar and virgin blue routes to NZ are fairly new. Their domestic routes are usually more or less on time (by about 1/2 an hour) but I have had flights cancelled on me and had to wait several hours for another one. Also with these airlines you will not get food (or you have to buy food on the plane) so take your sandwiches.

thanks for the info. "Some" cancellations make me apprehensive. :) I'll check Qantas. I see you're from Sydney. Would you recommend we fly to christchurch from sydney or melbourne?

I would fly fromm where ever is cheaper

Jetstar is pretty shocking with reliability, and its poor quality. Like if you are late to check in and the plane is still boarding.. they wont let you on it... Id go anything but jetstar..

We found pacific blue from Melbourne to Christchurch were the best.

I have not made any bad experience neither with Pacific Blue nor Jetstar, neither with cancellations nor with delays.

I have travelled Chch - Sydney on Jetstar, and Chch - Melbourne on Pacific Blue several times.

Another option for Chch - Sydney and AKL - Melbourne is with Emirates.

If you book early you can even get good deals with Air NZ or Qantas.

Thank you sissi for the info. Its still a toss-up between pacific blue or qantas. We're looking forward to getting to christchurch where we will be joining a motorcycle tour to see the southern portion of your mystical country. :)
