| Gdansk | how far is hel from Gyndia? Is it worth visiting? Do we have time? Posted: Mon August 20, 2007 08:17 AM UTC
we will be at the port of Gyndia 9am - 6pm on sept16th. We are thinking of taking taxi to train station to go to gdansk by train, spend a few hours, then to Oliwa for the organ concert, then visit sopot on the way back to Gyndia. What I like to know is how far is hel and do we have time just to see hel? We do not have to spend a lot of time there? and then back in time before 5:30?Is hel peninsula like key west in Florida?

A train from Gdynia to Jastarnia (one of small resorts in Hell) takes 1.5 hour one way. If you've got only 9 hours to see Gdansk and Sopot, no way you can do it imo. It's worth seeing as a curiosity, on one side is a bay, and open sea on the other, and sometimes you can see both at the same time when it's narrow. But Gdansk is a big city and you will need some time to see it, better see one thing well than just have a glimpse of many, in my opinion. Good luck!

You can get a ferry from Gydinia or Sopot to Jastarnia or Hel, this is quicker than the train, although there are only a few a day. However I still think you don't have enough time

Unfortunately, September is low season and ships to Hel don't operate.
(there are ones only for special order-for 50 people minimum) http://www.zegluga.pl/zatoka-poza_a.html You can go there by train; there are also buses, but due to many road works on the way to Hel you may get stuck in jams.In low season Hel is a sleepy small town with not many attractions, except for a scientific centre for Baltic seals and some remains of military fortifications. If you intend to spend only one day in Tricity, don't go there. The one-way journey will take you 2 hrs, back 2 hrs...I'd rather spend this time in Sopot.
