Hotel Seagull is bit of a dump, it had its former glory days, I am sure. In december, cochin is well visited. Last year in december, I was unable to get my favourite hotel, Ballards Bungalow and had to stay at Casa Linda which was not that bad. I remember my friend Suresh the travel agent telling that he couldnt find a hotel for visitors and they had to be accomodated at hotels far from the town. If you are short on time, it is better to book. You can write to Densal at Ballards and he has three properties: ballards, casa Linda and one other just recently opened.

Hotel Yuvarani is really good. It is about 50 euros for a double bedded A/C room and is right in the city centre, really clean and well maintained and great service too..

hi, i would recommend the hotel chiramel. i stayed there in march and i found it reasonablely priced{about £10 single}. the family who run it were very freindly and were very helpful.fort cochin is very interesting, i took the ferry to ernakulam , its a bit hectic but very interesting.
chiramel@rediff.com good luck and have a great time.laney
