Death Valley National Park All Day Tour recommendations?
Posted: Sun August 19, 2007 03:59 PM UTC
Hi!

We are looking at various day-tours that go to Death Valley. Does anyone have any recommendations? We only have a day to dedicate to the area (based out of Vegas), and thought that we would get more information on the area, and have the freedom to look around more if we had someone else do the driving. Originally, we wanted to go to the 'Racetrack', but don't see that it's a point normally visited.

Any guidance / recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

PS. We'll be in Vegas mid September, so some of the tours are not in operation due to the heat of the summer months.

Can't comment on any tours but the racetrack is on a dirt road that you need a high clearence and/or 4 wheel drive vehicle to get to. Unless you don't drive I would consider renting a car and going to the park yourself. Its an easy drive and all the main sights you would see in one day are easy to get to. Just remember that the park is huge although there aren't too many paved roads in it. Also make sure you get out and at least do some of the short hikes.

i've never checked into tours so can't comment.
but, personally, i would recommend renting a car from vegas and just go yourself. it will be very, very hot in september so if you want to do any hiking, i'd plan on arriving by 6:00 a.m. and do your hikes early. i definitly recommend the tour at scotty's castle. very interesting. check at the furnace creek ranch. you may be able to pay for a day pass for a dip in their pool.

Thank you for your recomendations. I was afraid by driving, that the driver wouldn't be able to look around. I take it the drive isn't too bad?!? We are renting a car, and that would certainly be an alternative to the 'group' tours... I look forward to visiting the area. Thanks again!
