Hi, get a bus from Elche and the bus station in Alicante is right in the centre of town. When you leave the bus station there are two parallel streets on either side of the bus station which are called calle pintor aparicio and calle portugal you can take either street and head upwards towards the centre of the city (the road should have a very slight inclination upwards I think), keep going straight until you reach Avenida Maisonnave which is about 3 or 4 streets upwards. This is the big shopping street in Alicante which has all the shops. If you go left on this street you´ll find the big el corte ingles which sells perfumes, clothing, toys, etc., however, if you follow avenida Maisonnave to the right you will find the small el corte ingles (still about 5 floors high) which sells music, DVD´s, furniture, electrodomestics, etc. I wouldn´t bother going to another of the other corte ingleses as they are just spin off discount or convenience stores, not worth it. They have so much stuff, although sometimes a little pricey. Anyway, on this street you´ll find all of the other shops also, just off this street beside the big el corte ingles there is a fountain and if you turn right there are some show shops and up the street to the left is the train station. This area has a lot of little bars and restaurants also, if you are hungry and you like tapas, there are two great little restaurants just off maisonnave called "Tapelia" and "Katagori", I can´t remember which street they are on, but it could be pintor aparicio or portugal, but it is definitely one of the streets that comes down off maisonnave, and there is only a little distance between the two on the same street. Enjoy!

I you come to Alicante by train, cross Avenida de Salamanca and walk down, you will find the big Corte inglés (clothes, shoes, bags, perfums) after the first corner (Avenida de Maisonave). If you look for the other one (furnitures, whites, music, books) turn left and follow Avenida de Maisonave to the end.
