Seeing as how he plundered his way through Ireland it is not hard to imagine that the Strawberry Trees were felled too.
Cromwell's legacy is estimated to have resulted in the death or exile of up to a third of the Irish population.

I have not heard about felling any trees but generally from what I have read the reality of Cromwell's campaign in Ireland was propagandized far beyond actual facts on the ground. He certainly did the Catholics no favors but I don't think he approaches the demon many make him out to be. You might tie his legacy to the famine and exodus of the 1840s but as that was nearly 200 years later it's a bit of a stretch. More culpable for the famine and its effects would be the British government and monarchy of the 19th Century.
