Cusco Earthquake ramifications
Posted: Sat August 18, 2007 04:17 AM UTC
I am planning to fly to Lima 21Aug and then on to Cusco and Lake Titicaca and surrounding areas. I am concerned about any problems that might be encountered due to the earthquake...ie communications down, delays in transportation, social upheaval....there are 600 prisoners on the loose! I know this isn't close to where the quake was but I'm wondering if the whole country is being affected. I'm considering cancelling my trip thinking that it might be disappointing due to frustrations encountered...and may want to reschedule when things are more normal. Anyone in these areas please tell me how it is. Thanks.

From what I have heard and seen is that airlines are operating normally as well as communications with Lima. Of course a report from someone on the spot in Cusco will be the best but I think that travel to Cusco will be ok.

Might be a good idea to rent a satellite phone if you are really concerned about communications while you are away.

femaletravlor, I am so glad to see your concern. About your plans not getting altered by the natural catastrophe that is! No worries, some areas might not have electricity or safe water supplies but they will man all the transportation posts and will have hundreds of tour guides just waiting for you. They might have just lost love ones or their belongings but rest assured they don't want to inconvenience you or be 'disappointing due to frustrations encountered'!!
