Hi there.

I'm comming to Malta in the beginning of October for the first time. I almost know nothing, only heard that the best sandy beach in Malta is Mellieha bay....is that true?
The other question is, my plane landing in the night and after all the check ins I'll be able to get out of the airport at about 1 am:(. Anybody, please tell me, how to get to Mellieha Bay at this time? I guess, taxi is the only option? Anybody have an idea of approximate price? How far is the airport from there?Does it take long time to travel? Would I be able to get there at all at this time? My 7 y.o. son is comming with me and I would very much appreciate any information regarding that, please.

Yes, At 1 a. m. the only opportunity to go to Mellieha or to other places in the island from the airport is to take a taxi. The shuttle from the airport stops its service around 8 p. m.

Yes Mellieha is a great Sandy beach, there are others, but most being in the North of the Island. Golden bay is another sandy one, but it is rather out of the way, with only a rather expensive hotel to stay in. Mellieha is a nice little town/village. It is quite quiet by some peoples standards, but then I guess just you and your 7 year old are not looking for raging nightlife!

You would need a taxi from the airport at that time, you could get a taxi from the airport, I have read on other forums the cost to Mellieha is approx 12lm which is approx £20. It should only take approx 30 minutes from the airport, as there will be hardly any traffic around at that time.

Yes. Take a taxi. Right outside arrivals. Also look on the board to check the price before you get into the taxi and confirm the price. The white taxi's like most other med countries can sometimes try their luck by overcharging.

There is a flat fare to Mellieha from the airport and it is listed in full view at the taxi desk just after arrivals.

Is there any options too book a taxi in advance and is it cheaper and anyhow safer?

you could always phone Wembly Car Hire. They are very reliabel and reasonable in price and you will find them waiting for you at the airport. Just tell them your name the your flight number and the date and time of arrival. Remember the profix to Malta when phoning 00356 good luck
