Isle of Man When is the best time/place to see puffins on the Isle of Man?
Posted: Fri August 17, 2007 10:27 AM UTC
I would love to see puffins and I read that you can see them on the Isle of Man. Would July/August be a good time or is any other month better?

I've read the Southern part would be the best place, or the Calf of Man. Are there any guided bird watching tours?

Thanks for any information.

Hi Christine,

This site may help....

http://www.ibboatcharter.iofm.net/

I haven't actually seen any Puffins from on the Isle of man but you may stand a good chance out on one of the boats. There is a number on the site you can call where you'll be able to get advice on the best time to make a trip.

Lot's of sharks around at the moment too!!!

Kristy :-)

Thank you very much, Kristy.
I would also like to see a shark. I looked at the website you gave me and found lots of interesting links, great! I'm looking forward to reading all about them.

I seem to remember you can see a very lot of Manx Shearwaters on the Calf of Man and with good pair of binoculars can see from Sound. There are however boat trips that go out although never been on one myself
I used to be a keen birdwatcher when young so was always on the top of the ferry with my "bins" because on the ferry crossing itself you can see lots of guilemots, etc and there is usually a huge Gannet or two that hovers and follows the ferry usually seems to be the whole way - it is great to be so close to these birds to get an idea of their scale.
