If I want to go to Venice, is it better to take my rental car, train, or bus? How long can you expect for this drive? Thanks

www.viamichelin.com estimates that it will take 3 hours and 40 minutes each way by car and cost 46.60 in tolls and gasoline costs (each way).
By comparison, the train takes from 3.5 to 4.25 hours (depending on which trains and how long your connection is in Milan) and cost something like 29.50 euro second class (each way), again, depending on which trains you take. Check for solutions and prices at www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html . So the train is just as fast, probably cheaper, and considerably more comfortable...the only reason to take the car would be if you intended to stop off and visit places along the way... Bill
