was wondering how to get from heathrow to st. albans and found the following link on google: http://www.londonbusroutes.net/times/724.htm#Sun_C
is there anyone who has already taken this bus and can tell me about how much a one way ticket will be? also, is this the only bus or are there more? What about trains?

On the home page, right hand side it will have a "from" - "to" section - type your destinations in and it will probably give you lists of different sections of St. Albans tp choose from etc... when you submit your choice of destination it will give you your options for getting there. There will then be links next to these options to give you times & fares.

after giving you that advise I decided I should double check I was right... I whacked in from Heathrow Airport Central to St Alban's Bus Garage - it reckons on an average of 1hr 30m which ever way you choose... but the first 2 options take you into London to then come all the way out again???? not so direct!

So think the answer is to stick with buses :) good luck!

I've used this bus from Watford to St Albans (en route to Luton Airport) and here is a better website. Price shown is £7.

Yes the 724 Greenline bus will take you all the way from Heathrow to St Albans and it will go via Watford.

There is another option, the Virgin Railair link bus VT98 goes from the airport to Watford Junction train station and is much quicker as it goes direct with no stops. Once you are at Watford Junction station you have three options to get to St Albans.

1. The 724 bus as stated above
2. The 321 bus
3. Get a train to St Albans Abbey station (15 mins). Be aware that to get from St Albans Abbey station to the town centre there is a long steep hill to climb.

Hope you enjoy your time in St Albans, it is one of my favourite cities.

thanks for your answers!!! they're all very helpful! I guess I will just take the bus even though it'll take longer, but that way I can't do anything wrong and just get in at the airport and out in st. albans *lol*.
is the bus terminal at heathrow easy to find btw? i mean is it just outsides or will I need to walk a bit? ...I'll have a look at heathrow's website tomorrow!

The bus terminal is in the traffic island between terminals 1,2 & 3. There is a subway that leads to the tube station where you need to head upstairs and find out which bus stance you are leaving from. I'm heading through the bus station on Friday so I'll check and update you.

that would be awesome! i'm really worried that i might miss the last 724 bus as my plane will only land around 5pm and the last 724 bus leaves at 6:30pm. so i better start studying the airport maps and get time tables for other transport options.

The bus leaves from stance No2 which is out of door D in the bus connection centre. These buses are coloured a combination of lime and dark green.

You'll not need to book on this service. I also think you may have read the timetable wrong as the last bus is at 2230 but you'll have more than enough time to get from your gate to the bus stance in 90 minutes (providing your flight is on time).

you're right about the last bus! turned out the other busses are missing on my print outs as they wouldn't have fitted onto the paper, d'oh. so i don't need to worry about the bus then :-)) *relieved*
