| Capri | from Rome to Capri Posted: Sun August 12, 2007 09:11 PM UTC
Hi
I am travelling to Rome in mid september and I would really like to visit Capri. What I want to know is -if a day trip to Capri from Rome is feasible. Also, what is the best and the most economical way. From my research I have sort of figured out that I shoud take a SITA bus from Rome to Naples (which would be around 2 hours) and then take a ferry to Capri. Would I be able to do justice to Capri in 5-7 hours that I am on the island. Also, I am a little concerned abour returning to Naples after dark. It has a dubious reputation. Is that justified? The day trips otherwise (the pre-packaged ones) are ridiculously expensive. Are the SITA buses reliable and easy to board. Do I need to book in advance? Please advice the best way to go about this. Thanks Pooja New Delhi India |

We took the intercity train from Termini Station in Rome to Naples Centrale Station. Then a taxi to the Beverello dock (18E), then the hydrofoil to Capri (16E per person), There are several hydrofoil companies that seem to leave about every hour or so and takes about an hour to get over and off loaded. Buy your hydrofoil return ticket when you arrive so you don't have to get in line on the way back. You should have 4-5 hours to explore Capri and then reverse the process. I was expecting roving gangs of youths up to no good at the Naples train station, but nothing of the sort.

you could also consider the youth hostel thats at Pompeii as a stopoff on the way back? - ferry to sorrento and direct train/bus to pompeii

Personally, my husband and I enjoyed Sorrento and Capri too much to do it in a day. It is a place to relax and enjoy the Italian atmosphere of small alleys, outdoor shops, open restuarants and cafes. You can still do it in a day because there is not much to do other than to relax and enjoy the romantic atmosphere. We took the train from Rome and then the metro at Naples, then a taxi to Sorrento. We stayed in Sorrento for a couple of days and took the ferry to Capri for the day.
