Does anyone know of a company that offers hot air balloon rides over or near the castle? I want to use every opportunity for the perfect photo of the castle while visiting the area from Canada. This is be my only trip to Germany and I don't want to come home with any regrets. If there are no hot air balloons companies does anyone have any other feasible idea? I will arrive in the area on October 16th, 2007

I can,t answer for the hot air balloon but if you walk to Maria Brücke (Maria Bridge) you can get a beautiful photo from there. As you approach the Castle you will see a path to the right, it is signed.

I have visited the area on a few occasions and cant recall seeing any balloons over the castle, although I should think its probably not the best idea incase the wind takes you back into the mountains or something! The Marienbrucke idea is the best view, you can also go up to top of Tegelberg just a little further down in a cable car, i dont believe you can see the castle from the top, but on the way up there are some good views!

If there's no hot air balloons, you could try walking further up the Tegelburg track. This takes you above the castle, is hardly used by the average tourist and gives you a different aspect over the castle entirely.
The other suggestions are also valid but I would advise trying both options, as I did. Cheers, Ian
