Hi All
Arriving at Malpensa Approx 18.00hrs september 10th. Is it best to get train or bus to Como. Is there much difference in time between both. I prefer to go by bus but train would do. Has anybody stayed at Marcos hotel.

I've only taken the train, not bus. It's an easy hour. Are you staying in Como? If you are going to another town on the lake you'll have to take either a boat or a cab to get there.

Take the train into Cadorna, then the Cadorna train into Como. The ride is not as nice as taking the train from Milano Centrale towards Tirano, but it's a better connection from the train that goes to the airport.

Oddly enough (I have no personal experience of this), the Ferrovie del Nord website (the train that runs to Malpensa is not the national railroad, but a private one) reports that the best solutions will be through Saronno.

It reports the following solutions:
dep Malpensa at 18:53, arr Saronno at 19:14
dep Saronno at 20:04, arr Como Lago at 20:44

See http://www.fnmgroup.it/website/lenord/it/orari_e_news/post.php and select "Malpensa Aeroporto" for "Stazione di partenza" and "Como Lago" as "Stazione di arrivo" (I am assuming that you can figure out the date and time). I am also guessing that Como Lago is the station you want - I think there are actually three Ferrovie del Nord stations in the Como area.

There is an earlier train that leaves Malpensa at 18:23 and arrives in Como at 19:44 (with a change in Saronno), but I don't know that you can make this train at Malpensa.

If you take the bus (see http://www.sea-aeroportimilano.it/en/malpensa/index.phtml?mod=per_mi_scroll&to=come_arrivare ), you will see that there is a bus leaving at 19:30, and should take about an hour (i.e., about 20:30), so, in theory, the bus at 7:30 p.m. should actually be a little faster. No opinions on the price...

SPT bus service - terminal A - runs direct to Como, takes an hour or so. Runs at 0730, 1330, 1830. Only 1 goes further up the west side of the lake.

I will be staying in Como. I will probably settle for the bus to save carrying luggage on and of trains. Many thanks

I was looking at the option for 7.30pm bus as I dont fancy changing stations with luggage and where I am staying in Como is just round the corner from the bus station. Many thanks for all the options, you really do know your way about this planet.

Lew, is the SPT bus really at 18:30 and not 19:30 (as the Malpensa website reports)? That hour difference may make a big difference to the OP...

There are actually 2 schedules on the internet - one says there are only 3 busses the last at 1830. The second says there are busses every two hours all day long the last at 1930.
