Tangier Ferry in December?
Posted: Sat August 11, 2007 05:39 PM UTC
My family is interested in taking the ferry from Algeciras to Tangier this December. Does anyone know if it runs in the winter? The only ferry schedules I can find online seem to end in mid-September.

I have taken this ferry in December and January. You should find all the info you need here: http://www.directferries.co.uk/algeciras_tangier_ferry.htm

the ferries run every day, day in day out all year round, other than very rough seas causing the boats not to sail, no ice in them parts of the mediterranean or atlantic ocean, so no reason why not.

timetabling has never seemed to mean much - i travelled them very frequently and they never ran to any time whatsoever (good examples of moroccan time for sure) and even when i did have to consult the website to check the times of the last ferries for a late plane arrival it went about 2 hours late like midnight anyway.

there is no need to book either and its actually best not to - if you book you are stuck with your ticket for that ferry and if you arrive to find your is having a problem others will be going but you cant get on them. arrive and buy the tickets for the next ferry that you check is the next going. bearing in mind finding out if theyre fast or slow ferries too.

if coming back to algeciras its best to come by ferry tangier to tarifa which is a very quick ferry 35 minutes and then a bus waits at the terminal to take you 20 mins or so to algeciras.

you can get off at the terminal(if say youre catching a bus to malaga or marbella or to malaga airport) or stay on it to the bus station (handy if your plane is at gibraltar as the buses leave just around the corner from the bus station) much faster than the ferries from tangier back to algeciras.

or you could of course see a bit of tarifa first which has an interesting seaside fortress. and the scenery looking down over the gibraltar straits is quite nice on the way to algeciras.
