Welcome to VT.
Get a bus or taxi from the docks to Naples railway station, then the Circumvesuviana train to Herculaneum (Ercolano-Scavi station). Train timetables here: http://www.vesuviana.it/Reteeorari/Ferrovia/Orario

Hi, there is a train station close to the hydrofoil dock in Napoli. From there you can catch a train to Ercolano(Portici Station). They run roughly every hour.
The distance is about 11 kms, so if you cant be bothered with trains, you could take a taxi. Here is one number you could try 081 5525252 For clarification of train times and fares check out www.trenitalia

I walked from Napoli Centrale to Beverello port with my luggage and it wasn't too bad, but it may have been downhill. That would suggest that walking to the station from the port would be uphill, which might not be so nice. I would suggest bus or taxi to Napoli Centrale, then connecting to the Circumvesuviana train. They run about every half hour for most of the day.
