| Como | Searching for points of interest.....and more Posted: Fri August 10, 2007 08:10 PM UTC
I just found this WONDERFUL website today. I'm hooked and it's nice to see everyone so helpful and so many of you. If I could have the honeymoon like from “1000 places to see before you die” I would have lived a perfect life, almost. By the way, it’s where I learned about Lago di Como. To the point.
September 10-16, 2007 I will be spending the first part of my honeymoon at the Metropole Suisse Hotel in Como. This wasn't my first choice, but after 3 other hotels were booked, I took it. At least it is in a convenient location. I also have a rental car along with my new Garmin GPS (I have load a considerable amount of Points of Interest to it already), which I hope to exploit and can travel to some of the harder to reach and smaller towns in the area. What are some of the must see and must eat places that you guys have encountered? I love authentic food and willing to try about anything. I just emailed a restaurant called Il Caminetto (sp) where on Thursdays you can take a cooking class! What about the fabulous wines they must have in the lake region? Rental Car- If we want to go to Bellagio or similar for the day is it worth driving or just take the hydrofoil? I hear parking is a pain! What are the best places to park? My fiancé has told me that she isn't taking any clothes with her since she is going to Malian and Paris (two of the fashion capitals of the world) on the honeymoon, she is just going to buy everything. Any suggestions? My cousin lived in Italy for a couple years and was saying in Switzerland they had designer outlet malls cheap? Anyone know truth to that? I love history, the old churches, forts, markets, you name it and I want to see it. I know Como doesn’t offer much of a night life, but all I’m looking for is a local pub that stays open late…er, hopefully full of locals we can get to know! I love meeting new people and hearing the stories. Again, I really appreciate any suggestions! Grazie! |

welcome to VT. See what I might help you with. Most people take the hydrofoil up to Bellagio which is certainly a great place to visit. But we drove - the road is lousy but the little villages are delightful and the view across the lake can be great. AT the tunnel, bear left and go on the old road if allowed. As you reach Bellagion there is a big carpark right there. If the lot is filled and you can't park, go to the right up the little hill and drive right thru town to the Villa Serbelloni 5 star hotel - drive right in like you own the place, turn right at once, and park in the garage in the back.
Como is sort of dead except at the main square, perhaps Cernobbio just up the west side of the lake might be more lively along the water. Numerous villas along the lake, several near Bellagio like Melfi but the most famous Villa Carlotta in Menaggio. Beautiful. But to spend all the money on clothes in Milan, take the train and catch the subway to Villa Montenapoleone where it can all disappear. This is an easy trip from either of Como's train stations. The station on the west side goes to a secondary station and you have to switch subways, but it is really easy. The othere goes to the main station - just one subway. I'm wearing my Milan Ferragamo's tonight. Enjoy your honeymoon.

Thanks for the info! I was just in Nordstroms Department store two days ago and I saw a pair of Ferragamo's and then I looked at the price....I also just got emails back about booking a cooking class and paragliding! I don't think the trains will be difficult, I lived in Tokyo for about 6 months. Thanks for the info about parking and I will be sure to stop at all the small villas I can.
