Cardiff Transport after rugby world cup quarter-final in Cardiff
Posted: Thu August 9, 2007 03:46 PM UTC
Hi I am going to the quarter-final rugby world cup game in Cardiff on the 6th of October. I couldn't get accommodation in Cardiff, so I am staying in Bristol, thinking I would be able to get a train after the game. I just checked train times, and it seems the last train is at 9.55pm, which is too early. Does anyone know if there are plans to put more trains on line? Any other suggestions for transport back to Bristol at about 11pm? Thanks,

K

We had the same problem, went to a concert at the Millennium Stadium and looked into trains to get there, in the end my friend drove.
Took us literally hours to get out of the multi-story, then there were traffic jams near Newport, we got into Bristol at about 2 am after the concert finishing around 11.

You could look into booking a ticket from Bristol including entry to the match and a coach trip there and back. I've been searching on google but can't find much.
National Express's last coach is far too early, but there's one that leaves 1am Sunday morning....a three hour wait I know.

There's be a huge call for that kind of travel, don't know why they don't sort themselves out!!!

I just checked Arriva Train Wales web site and there is a train leaving Cardiff Central at 11.30pm, arriving at Bristol at 12.23am.
After that there is a train at 09.50pm on Sunday. There are several bars and clubs in Cardiff that are open through the night so if you wanted to you could go one of these and catch the morning train back to Bristol.

Hi, thanks for your replies. I've checked the Arriva Trains Wales website, but I can still only see the train which leaves at 21.58 and arrives at 22.59 on Saturday the 6th of October. Are you sure there is definately a later train on that date?

Hi. I sent you a private message a few days ago. Did you not get it? I made a mistake with the times sorry, but there is a bus from Cardiff to Bristol that leaves late at night that you could catch.

Here is the reply I sent -
Hi,
Oooops. Sorry. I forgot that your travelling from Bristol TO Cardiff, not
Cardiff TO Bristol. Doh!
Yup, your right, last train is 21.58. Next one is on Sunday morning.
What you could do is look for a cheap hotel in Cardiff for the night and catch a
Sunday train back to Bristol. You can pick a room in an hotel up from around £35
a night.
Failing that, National Express coaches have a coach leaving Cardiff at 01.30am
on Sunday morning, arriving back in Bristol at 02.50am. The cost is £10.20
return.

Sorry for the mistake with the train, but a coach may well be best for your
visit.

Dave.

PS - You have GOT to try a pint of Brains SA bitter! The SA is the initials of
Sam Brain, the founder, but us locals say it stands for Skull Attack, cos that's
what it does after too many pints!

Dear Kazzamick,

Have checked the South West trains website and the last train back to Bristol from Cardiff seems to leave at 11.29 pm.

(Here's the link if you want to make sure - just fill in 'Cardiff Central' and 'Bristol Temple Meads' to accurately describe the stations you want to travel between and you should be fine).

Have fun,

Hi Kazzamick

The main problem is that there is some engineering works on the line between Cardiff and London, so that trains can't run after a certain time. If you're looking to get back to London try Lithos Rugby running a coach spedifically for this game - lithosrugby@nzoomail.com or www.lithosrugby.co.uk

Garth
