Kirkenes Crossing the frontier - Russia
Posted: Thu August 9, 2007 08:14 AM UTC
I'm looking into getting a bus from Kirkenes to Murmansk - can anyone recommend a company that does this? Just did a bit of google searching but couldn't find anything.
Also - is it better to sort out visas at home (London for me) or can I just do this when I reach Kirkenes or the Russian border?

You want get visa on the border to Russias main sea military base?? It is generaly big hassle and paperevork to get Russian visa, forget border.

Don't think they will let you into Murmansk without special permission even if you had a visa.

Ok,

Seems that part of Murmansk is open, but you need AT LEAST 6 days to get single entry visa.

Look trough

The Russian consulate in Kirkenes can suply you with a visa, but it gets very expensive if you order it under 16 days

Cheers for the replies guys - realised last night that I've got quite a lot of reading ahead of me to make this trip happen! Determined to make it though.

From what I've heard Murmansk is totally open (well, as totally open as any Russian city is), neighbouring Severomorsk is closed however.
