Philadelphia Transportation from Philadelphia to Bethlehem/Allentown
Posted: Wed August 8, 2007 09:20 PM UTC
Hey, I was wondering if there were any easy ways to get from Philadelphia to Bethlehem for the weekends. I'd be taking a train from ElizabethTown to the 30th street train station in Philadelphia and I need some kind of transportation up to Bethlehem or maybe even Allentown. If anybody knows of any bus line that would leave the 30th station at sometime from Noon to 8pm on Fridays that would be great.(overall im trying to find the easiest way to get from Elizabethtown to Bethlehem for the weekends). thanks =]

Philadelphia One thing you may not know (so I'll tell you)

No inter-city bus line that I know of in Philly operates from 30th Street Station -- that's solely a train station. The bus lines operate just north of Market Street around 12th Street. That's where the Greyhound / Trailways / Peter Pan / Martz Terminal is, and many of the "Chinatown" buses operate near there. Be 100% certain of WHERE you need to get on your bus, many discount bus lines do NOT operate out of the main bus terminal.

Fortunately, getting from 30th Street to 12 Street is very easy -- just go east (towards Frankford) on the Market - Frankford Line (aka the "Blue Line") and get off at 13th Street (two stops). You'll have to leave the confines of 30th Street Station to get to this subway line, but it's a trivial walk and the signs are easy to follow.
You'll have to get tokens from the vending machines (make certain you put money in SEPTA machines near the Blue Line entrance) to ride the subway, or pay $2 at the booth. These vending machines take cash ONLY and sell a minimum of two tokens (for $2.60 -- thus you can ride once for $2 or twice for $2.60).

The Bieber bus does pick up across the street from 30th St. station. Right now there is construction at the normal stop so you will have to cross Market St at 29th and wait at the Septa stop on the corner. There are always other people waiting for that bus there so you will see them lined up.
