Vermont Vermont in 3 days/2 nights
Posted: Tue August 7, 2007 09:40 PM UTC
We're driving through vermont on route to Connecticut and want a B&B to stay for 2 nights. We plan to visit Lake Champlain and the Green Mt Nat Forest and would rather stay near the latter - can anyone recommend a place - is Manchester or Wilmington nice and if so which places could we stay? Or are they very commercialised and should we stay somewhere else. I would appreciate you help.

We drove this same route several years ago and took the recommendations of our American relatives and friends for a number of B&B's en route, some of which they pre-booked for us. We were horrified by the prices charged, equivalent then to 3/4* city centre or country house English Hotels.

So we ignored the New England B&B Directory they kindly gave us for the rest of the trip and just drove til we came to a place we liked the look of and had a choice of accommodation.
Burlington, Stowe, Charlotte,Shirley, Bristol, .... all nice, some touristy in a folksy American way.
But unless things have changed price-wise in that part of the world for B&B prices think small English country house hotel rather the UK Bed and Breakfast.

Try to obtain from the relevant Visitor Information Offices details of accommodation before you start your trip.
