Bologna Need parking and restaurant info for a few hours in Bologna
Posted: Tue August 7, 2007 11:20 AM UTC
I will be traveling from the Como area, heading down to the Chianti Area, and thought It would be nice to Stop in Bologna for lunch, and to walk along under the famous porticos. Can any Vt member who lives there advise me as to a good restaurant for afternoon that has Bolognese cusine.(Is Pappagallo's open for lunch?)and what is the parking situation in this city?

Like most Italian cities, Bologna has municipal and private parking lots, particularly around the edge of the city center.

If you will go to www.viamichelin.com , enter "Italy" and "Bologna" under "Maps", choose option #1 (the first Bologna), close the Your Search box, click on the Parking symbol on the toolbar on the map (the white "P" on the field of blue), then zoom in (the plus sign on the toolbar), when you zoom in close enough, the parking lots known to Michelin will be marked.

I have stayed at a hotel 2 or 3 blocks south of the main train station. Although we used a garage to park in, I believe that there were surface lots nearby (as the map suggests). If you park near the train station, as you walk south on Via dell'Independenza (I think that's the one), you will almost immediately encounter the arcades, and they will continue as you walk to the city center, which, as you can see, is an easy walk.

Unfortunately, I can't address if these or other parking lots routinely fill up...good luck!

Bill

Hi,
if you arrive in Bologna during this week or next week you don't have problems to park in the center of Bologna. I think the best place is the parking of "Piazza 8 Agosto": it's a private parking under this place, inside the hystorical center and at 10 minute walking from the center of Bologna.
In Bologna there are a lot of restaurants, it depend from how much you want to pay for the lunch. The problem is that during this weeks a lot of restuarant are on holiday, so you could find someones closed.

Bye
Riccardo

Turambar- I will not be visiting Bolognia untill late April of next year, So I don't know how busy the city is that time of the year, as for restaurants, I think one that has a relaxed atmosphere, but authentic Bolognese food, where you can imagine grandma coming out of the kitchen to say hello! I'm into the food not the decor of the restaurant, some hole in the wall places have the best cooks. As for price( a good meal is priceless! ) I may wind up being in Bologna on May ist, will most places be closed? please respond
