| Riomaggiore | OK, one more question... Posted: Sun August 5, 2007 09:05 PM UTC
Thanks again for all the help. So, does anyone have a recommendation for a favorite place to stay in the Cinque Terre region. I think I am most interested in the Monterosso area but would be open to any suggestions.

Cinque Terre is a quite small geographical area so wherever you stay you will not be far away from any of the other villages; a few minutes by very regular trains which stop at every village. The stations in Riomaggiore, Vernazza and Monterosso are right in the town centres (I'd avoid any accommodation near to them as the railway is very busy with both passenger and freight trains. The station in Manarola is just outside, through a short pedestrian tunnel, so does not intrude into the atmosphere of the village. Corlignia station is outside of the village with a very steep climb to the village (there is a shuttle bus that runs during the daytime). I stayed at La Torretta in Manarola and would recommend it (if you are able to get). I have posted a review on VT - http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/b73af/2454b/3/

What geoveo said....
We stayed in Vernazza (which is the next town from Monterosso) and really loved it! You might want to have a look at my Liguria page and the individual Cinque Terre village pages to make up you mind and try to find some place to stay! It might not be all that easy, because CT is quite popular!

tini58de is correct; accommodation in the villages will be at a premium at this time of year so you should try and book ahead. I too think that Vernazza would be a good place to stay. It has a picturesque harbour with more choice of restaurants around it than in the other villages, except perhaps Monterosso which is the most town-like of the 5 villages.
