I am planning to go for a day to catania. I already went to Taormina and Etna so taught of doing something different. I would like to know what nice beaches are there and where can I find the aqua park?

Hi, If you're looking for good clean beaches, Catania is not the place. There is a lot of pollution in the ocean here. There is one passable beach on the way to the airport but i would not, personally, swim in these waters.
As for the 'aqua park' do you mean 'Etnaland'. This is the only theme park I know of in the environs of Catania. From Catania take the ring road - 2nd exit to Misterbianco then SS121 Misterbianco-Paterno road. Exit for Valcorrente and the park is sign posted.

Hi,
Are the beaches really so bad around Catania? If away from the port where does the polution come from? Where is the nearest OK beach. Thanks, baltic

Catania's beaches are pretty grim. The coast, north of Catania is pretty rocky until you reach Giardini Naxos. There are a few small beaches in between but mostly used by locals for beachcasting(fishing)and the like

We just came from there. I wouldnīt say that the beaches in Catania are polluted - they are just very "rocky" and it is hard to go into the water if you donīt have swimming shoes. Otherwise the water there was of a very nice temperature and you could see fishes:-)

Hi,
Now back in sunny London. When I was in Catania went to one of the Lidos, about 2 km South of the airport. Beautiful sandy beach and apparently clean water. I think the beaches may be cleaner now. The northern side of the airport the beach looked a little less clean. This is long beach. The water in Taormina was very clear with a lot of small fish but there are many rocks and a lot of people , relatively. Baltic

Haha - welcome back - glad you found clean beaches. They've obviously been doing some work around Catania.
