Can anyone provide information re traveling by train from Amsterdam to the Cinque Terre region of Italy. How close can I get by rail and which rail stop is closest to my destination (Monterosso al Mare)? Thanks in advance for any help.

An International train can bring you to Milano.

From there you can travel with a local train to Monterosso al Mare, which is at a railway line (either along the coast or via Parma).

You can get all the way to your destination by train, either via Milan or via Paris, Ventimiglia and Genova, see http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en (but don't put Monterosso as final destination, put Genova or La Spezia). Trains between Genova (Nervi or Brignole) and La Spezia stop at each of the Cinque Terre stations, e.g.:

The overnight train journey from Amsterdam to Milan is 14 hours. The rest is about 3 more hours.
