| Essaouira | Essaouira in August Posted: Sat August 4, 2007 02:00 PM UTC
I´m getting to Essaouira on Monday with a friend but we dont know much about the place. We want to have a relaxing week but we would like to have some fun also..Do you think it would be possible in esaouira? or may be we would have to get somewhere else. Is there any possibilities of meeting people for example? Any nightlife at all? and we would also like to know about the beaches there and if there´s any place around we should go (another town or something) nearby...Thank you! We are 25 by the way...

the beach in essaouira is big. there will be lots of surfers there in your age group. i went with my daughter{who is thirty}on a day trip from marrakech and it was lovely. charlotte was able to have a camel ride on the sands. dont pay any more than £10.im not sure about the nightlife there but there are some lovely pavement cafes and i would imagine that that is part of the scene in the evenings.if you get a chance try and see marrakech for the day. you will be able to get the bus there for about£9, or have you been there before?
have a lovely holiday and dont forget your suncream{the sun is blistering!}.

Hi! Essaouira has a lot to offer I'm sure You'll have a good time there. It's a working town, with a busy harbour and bazaar area. The beach attracts a windsurfing crowd.
It was a haven for hippies in the 70's attracting Jimmi Hendrix and the Rolling stones etc- So there's quite an arty feel. Essaouira holds a Gnoa music festival in June, which is well known- I've visited Essaouira twice, although I've not visited the festival yet, each time I've heard Gnoa musicians playing in the squares etc.(This is a traditional style of music - which is quite hypnotic!) There are plenty of bars and a few clubs to enjoy music and drinking.Lots of restaurants too, many with good seafood. For a cheap meal try the fish grills near the harbour, or buy fish at the fish market/auction, then take it to be cooked on the grills - for a few dirhams, you'll have your fish cooked, and served with salad and fries. Essaouira attracts lots of travellers, so You'll not have any problems meeting people from different countries, The local people are very friendly too- strike up a conversation, and see where it leads- You don't say how long your visit is for or where else You're visiting - Marrakech is about 3 hours away. Check out Vters pages on Essaouira for more info. Have A Great Trip! Sue

Taros is a good place for a night out, there is live music at the weekends. Drinks are a little expensive with cocktails starting at £4.50, Its a good place for a sundowner with views of the square, port & beach. Taros is in Moulay Hassan square. Have a good trip
