The biggest problem is the confusion with the metro.
- "plava linija" will take you only till Deák Tér. - to everyone's surprise, the "crvena linija" is gone for this Summer. :-((( Instead, you will see busses with "M2" on the head board. The busses are in lieu of the "Red Line"/"M2". - the combined 200/"blue line"/"red line substitution" is a very big pain to use. Better (maybe) to share a taxi or an airport VAN with somebody. The train ticket from Budapest to Beograd has many prices. Do not buy outside of Hungary or Serbia, otherwise you will pay more, in some cases much more. - "Beograd special" is valid only on direct trains (two daily), the price is 15 Euro one-way and 26 Euro roundtrip. This ticket is sold in Hungary or Serbia only, no on-line pricing but it is being sold in great numbers. - "Serbia roundtrip" is valid for any train and is 29.28 Euro regardless of any train. This price is valid on tickets being sold in Hungary or Serbia only. Other tickets are out of interest. For your note: to reach Parac'in if anyone is lazy: there is a single car, a Bulgarian sleeper (11 Euro in T3 extra to the normal ticket) departing with the evening train. The round-trip price Budapest-Parac'in is 41.92 Euro if you buy the ticket in Budapest (plus 11 Euro each way). Buying one-way ticket to Serbia besides the great "Beograd Special" deal for 15 Euro does not make any sense. Officially the Budapest-Sofia car will depart Budapest 23:25 and reach Parac'in at 11:16 next day. Unofficially the train is usually 1-2 hours late at Parac'in and you do not want to know how late it is as it reaches Sofia. For people with "Scottish" attitude like myself: Budapest-Beograd 15 Euro one-way is a good deal, but there is no suh good deal on international ticket going to Paracin. People often buy Budapest-Beograd one-way ticket for 15 Euro + T3 sleeper Budapest-Paracin for 11 Euro extra and purchase the rest of the ticket (=Beograd-Paracin) from the Serbian conductor as he boards the train in Subotica or after Beograd.
