| Juneau | Mendenhall open hours and cab ride Posted: Sat August 4, 2007 05:04 AM UTC
We're in a serious time crunch, our cruise arrives at 3, our excursion is 3:30 to 6:30pm. We'd love to take in Mendenhall (I think it may be light late in September) but don't know if we can make it. Cabs go there? How much? How long?
Also, is there ANY chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis that low down in the state? |

I've seen the aurora in september in that part of the state.Luck plays a part in that. There will be taxis on the docks waiting for cruise ship people to unload-It's a small town and the vistors center is easy to get to-C

Wow, I've seen some awful ship schedules, but getting to Juneau at 3pm is the worst. The Visitor Center is open from 8 a.m. - 7:30 p.m., but the glacier is always accessible for viewing. You can get a shuttle from the dock to the glacier for $6, you don't need to spend huge $ on a cab. Some excursions (ie whale watching from Auke Bay) will drop you at the glacier. The sun, though, sets about 7:45 - http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.html
