Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Cairns Housing
Posted: Sat August 4, 2007 03:43 AM UTC
Couple will be arriving in Cairns this week..YEAH!!!!Sooo excited. Anywho, we have a hotel for the first few nights and then we are in a hostel for the next week. We are staying in Cairns til Nov. or so. What is the best option for 3 month housing. We don't want to stay in a hostel for that long. Is it better to get a furnished studio apt or do share housing? Furnished studios seem to be cheaper, but they don't include power and all the extra stuff. The shared housing has everything included, but it is shared living space and no private bath. Anyone know a better way to go??? Does anyone know anything about Cairns-Sharehouse ?? Any help would be awesome!!! Thanks

Hello

I hope you mean Cairns Australia & not Cannes France

I live in Cairns Australia & if I were you it would be better to rent a studio apartment for that length of time--you could check with the rental agents & ask them to look around for basic power to be included as a lot of holiday rentals offer this.

Have a wonderful time .

You will love it here in Paradise:)

There are properties advertised in the Cairns Post each day, but Wednesday and Saturday are the main papers to check out for rentals.
Once here go to the Estate agents and check out what they have.
You can get short term accommodation. I think it would be better to get furnished accommodation, studio etc than share...you NEVER know the people you are sharing with and that could be a real bummer a few weeks into sharing:)
I am always checking out the rental pages, there are studios etc at around 180 plus per week. To me it seems that the Northern Beaches are a little cheaper, but you would have to allow for petrol or bus fares above this.
Go to Rustys markets for cheap vegies and fruit etc.....
Where I rent the power you pay for, that is it. I am finding the power soooooo much cheaper up here compared to the southern state of Vic, mainly because you don't use much for heating....only really need a fan or too on at this time of year.
I paid 230 for my last 3 month bill. I live alon and have the fans going all the time. That also included a bit of aircon use earlier in the year.If you use your aircon, make sure you don't have it on too low set it on around 23C/24C this saves heaps of power.

Cheers
Anne

Hi,

My boyfriend and I stayed at Cairns Sharehouse.com in July this year. They were the only place we could find that would take us for a minimum of 4 weeks as all the real estate agents were expensive or wanted 3 months contract. We shared an apartment with 6 other people and there were 2 bathrooms so it was pretty good. Our place had a pool, tv/dvd player inside the room, ceiling fan and they were quite modern and got cleaned weekly (all had a windows and doors which was a huge improvement compared to some places we checked out!). The bond was pretty low and we got it back at the end of the stay. They seemed to have a lot of apartments to choose from at different prices but we paid $125 each a week which included everything and was a hell of a lot better than a hostel everynight. Have fun - Cairns is like tropical paradise and we loved it.
