| Honolulu | Diamond Head/ Haunama Bay by bus Posted: Fri August 3, 2007 08:58 PM UTC
My wife and I will staying at a hotel a few blocks from Waikiki Beach; and plan to use the bus for transportation.
If we start out early to hike Diamond Head, then take the bus from there to Hanuama Bay to snorkle, will we get to Hanuama too late to beat the crowds? Or won't that even matter since we're visiting in mid- September? Thank you, Bill |

Hi We got there on a Wednesday at 9am just over 2 weeks ago, we were on a full Island bus tour $37 , had 15 minutes there , plenty of people in water butwas not crowded, most people looked as though they were poor swimmers and were in the shallows. I tour guide gave us the bus number from Waikiki but I have forgotten, however he said do not miss the last return bus approx 5 pm or you might have a long walk.
Good Luck Mike

I would do Diamond Head and Hanauma Bay on separate days, just to be sure that you have enough time for both. You don't want to be looking at your watch the whole time you're admiring the vista from the top of the crater.

There is a very good reason not to go to far in the bay as the rip currents can be very strong and catch even a good swimmer off guard.
You can see the bus schedule at thebus.org Depending on when in Sept you'll be there the Aloha Festivals maybe going on either on Oahu or one of the others you can check that website as well.

I agree with your suggestion, Rixie. I'm going to redo my schedule so Hanuama Bay and Diamond Head are two seperate days.
As you said, I wouldn't want to hurry through Diamond Head just to get to Hanuama Bay. It seems to me that there are basically two types of travel: to sightsee-and to rest. As I plan our vacations, I try to balance out the two.
