Reims Camping near Reims
Posted: Wed August 1, 2007 08:36 PM UTC
In August we are camping in a place called CHALONS-EN-CHAMPAGNE (MARNE) . Apparently it is a 4 star site according to a travel book we have, but there is no website. Has anyone stayed here? If so is it ok. It is a municipal campsite. Any info will be gratefully received.

We haven't stayed in that particular campsite, but every municipal campsite in France that we have used has been very nice.

If you have a book store nearby, look up "Camping and Caravanning in France" and see what they say. It's very reliable.

The camping site should be OK but Chalons en Champagne is one of the dullest town I know. Chalons-sur-Marne became Chalons-en-Champagne a few years ago, a more appealing name but it is misleading as there is no vineyard in the vicinity.
The prestigious title of "Capitale du Champagne" is disputed between Epernay and Reims, 38 km and 44 km far from Chalons "en Champagne" respectively.
Lot of Champagne cellars ("caves" in French) to visit in both cities. Magnificent and huge cathedral in Reims. Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris is bland in comparison (and small)

Thank you for your advice. Chalon-en-champagne campsite is just a base really. We intend travelling around the area. One thing you may be able to help with....My Husband and I and the two children hope to visit Paris. We were hoping to go by train. Would there be a direct line from near our campsite to Paris? If we decided to stay overnight in Paris to vist Euro Disney the next day could you recommend and reasonable accomodation?

Thanking you in anticipation Louise
