Havana Proposed trip in September or October
Posted: Tue July 31, 2007 07:17 PM UTC
Hi

I am new to this so please bear with me.

I plan to travel to Havana alone and would like to stay in an apartment. The last time I stayed at the Inglaterra and was not where I wanted to be.

If there is a family present that is not a problem although I would certainly enjoy my own bathroom.

I would like to be central but it seems the choices are either Vevado or Vieja....not Centro.

It's not the money...its that I would like to meet more Cuban people than tourists. I met lots of tourists on my last trip.

I would welcome any help and in return can help about The Riviera Maya in Mexico.

Thanks in advance

Sally

Hi Sally,
You can check out my pages and you will find out about a very nice casa in vedado there. Ana and Pepe are 2 very nice people and have rooms with bathroom too. Also in vedado you find great places for eating and music and not too many tourists.I like it there and i love the walk along the malecon into Havana where i most times stop for my first drink outside the Inglaterra..before wandering of around Havana for the day. I'm going there in January again..hope you will have a great time.Barbara

In casas particulares you live with a family, have your own room and sometimes your own bathroom. Normaly you can also get good breakfast (extra costs) and they cook you dinner if you like - much better food than in most restaurants.

Try http://www.casaparticular.info/
they have more than 50 casas in Centro Havana (La Teraza i.e sounded good), sometimes they have own websites sometimes only e-mail adress. We stayed all our stay in Cuba in casas and were really happy with it.

Enjoy your trip

Hi, see www.privatehouseincuba.com I stayed in January 2007 in "la terraza de Mary" and "la casa de Marķa del Carmen". 35 CU per night with private bathroom near Malecon and Spain Embasy in Habana vieja. I recomend both. Good place, clean and safe, good food and very friendly people. Good luck

My friend has a casa in Central Havana, six blocks up from the Malecon, so very central. I loved this area of Havana and Daisy's casa is great. I have been very slack about posting tips and this is one I've not put up yet. A friend stayed in another casa close by and said it was very good too, so if you want details of two casas in this area send me a mail. I know you will share a bathroom in one, but I'm not sure about the other. The casa Florry recommends is very nice, with your own bathroom, but it is not very close to the centre. Everywhere I stayed I met lovely people.
I will be going back on my own in November.
