Varadero Travel Forum

Hi everyone

Although we are not really into diving we do like to snorkel quite a lot on holiday and have seen some wonder fish and coral in the Maldives. We are planning on going to Varadero next July (staying at the Blau Varadero) and would like to make sure we can snorkel there and see some interesting sea life? Any tips or information would be much appreciated.

I'm heading down to Cuba (Varadero) for my third trip. The first two I did some short snorkling off the beach and did see some beautiful fish and coral. The problem with most of the beach areas in Varadero is that they have beautiful sand that extends far out into the ocean. So, to get to see anything of much interest you need to swim out very very far or take a boat. In my case I asked for a catamaran to take me out (1/2 - 1 km) then snorkled. Lots of fish!

However, if you really want to see some amazing sea life I highly recommend doing a scuba dive. Most of the resorts in Varadero offer free lessons and an inital dive on a reef up to 15 meters deep. I did that last trip and it was the highlight of the entire trip. Incredible fish, lobster, eels, coral... Well worth the time. Will be doing it again on my next trip this fall.
