Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Kruger National Park Luggage weight/allowance
Posted: Mon July 30, 2007 07:14 PM UTC
Hi.My query is as follows. We are travelling to South Africa to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary in October 2007 and during this trip we are staying 5 nights in Capetown, 3 days in the Kruger National Park and then onto Victoria Falls for 3 nights.

I have been informed by my itinerary (South African Airways) that the flights CPT/MQP (Kruger)have a baggage limitation of 15kgs per person.

Has anyone out there had the same query...what do we do with our remaining luggage i.e. the luggage that we brought from our UK airport?? Am I making sense??

My flight itinerary states Depart CPT at 10:55, arrives Kruger 13:10 (the same day). Has anyone out there done this route before?? Does anyone know that when we depart from CPT, does the flight land at JNB then onto the Kruger because my South African Travel agent suggested we leave our remaining luggage at JNB airport??

Very very confused, can anyone advise me.
Many thanks
Abbsy

Something sounds wrong here. I would get a second opinion on the weight limit from another agent.

It would appear that the 15kg limit is per piece (and not per person) for hold luggage because that flight is loaded and unloaded by hand. But don't quote me on this.

Departing Cape Town 10:55, arriving Kruger 13:10 (the same day), does not leave any time to stop in Jhb. - those times are typical for a direct flight of that distance.

I just returned this July from South Africa; went on a tour; visited Capetown, Kruger, Jo'burg, etc. The 15Kg (44 lbs)one piece of checkin luggage limit applied to flying domestically within South Africa. International--2 luggages, each 66lbs on SAA. And 7Kg limit on carry-on; though it wasn't rigorous enforced by SAA.
We went to Victoria Falls from Jo'burg. Not wanting to take our big suitcases, we stored them at airport--$2 per 12 hours for each piece. Reclaimed on return to Jo'burg before flight home. You could do same before going to Kruger--assuming you're coming back to Jo'burg.

We bussed from Kruger (southern part)to Jo'burg before Vic Falls, took a whole day for us. I assume reverse travel would be no different timewise.
Being on tour was great for us first timers there. No need to worry about tranportation, hotels, etc--of course, you pay for service.

Hi and thanks for your reply, however we don't hit Jo'burg until our return journey home - our itinerary is London Heathrow-Capetown, Capetown-Kruger, Kruger-Vic Falls, Vic Falls-London Heathrow.
I've e-mailed SAA and they've asked me to let them know what baggage weight I'm thinking of taking and they'll try and accommodate me. The baggage weight I'm allowed from the UK-Capetown is 23kg per person, don't think SAA will allow me this weight? Anymore ideas. Many thanks Lynne
