Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Tijuana Taxi Cost?
Posted: Mon July 30, 2007 04:47 PM UTC
This maybe a stupid question, but oh well. I see all over the postings the usual cost for a taxi ride into Tijuana is about $5. I plan to take my daughter, so is that $5 a person or $5 for the group?
Thanks

It is usually $5.00 per person, but you would most likely be able to negotiate for the two of you something less than $10.00. Also, there may be other people in your taxi as the drivers try to fill it with as many people as possible to make more money.

From the gates of the border you can walk a block or so and be at the beginning of the "tourist" area. It is called Plaza Viva Tijuana and is about three or four blocks long up the "old" Calle 1 until you reach Avenida Revolucion, which is the main tourist shopping and dining street in Tijuana which is most popular for about the first seven blocks. This route is about a mile or mile and a half and might not be too much to walk.

Another option is to take a bus from the USA side (located, from the SD Trolley, over the bridge and north across the street--of the bridge.) the round tip cost of the bus is $3-$4 and will drop you off at one of three or four points between the border and Calle 7. I offer photos and more info on my Tijuana page if you are interested.

Hope this helps,
Linda

Amigo, I live in TJ. Yellow cabs are most expensive and bad service. White cabs with orange strip are best, (called LIBRES) 3 to 5 dlls. to downtown for all 3 or 4 people. They have meter and are honest and just for you. they dont pick up anyone else. Enjoy

Better yet, walk past the cabs to the econo cabs, that will take you into town for $3. They have prices posted to other points all over. VERY cheap.

Walk another block and you can take the blue and white buses into the downtown area for like fifty cents.

In fact, in daylight hours, you can just walk over the bridge. It's like a half mile.

When crossing the border don't take any taxi at all... just walk across the bridge and you'll be indowntown tijuana in less than 15 minutes at a slow pace. The yellow taxi cabbies are now dressed with a yellow shirt and they drain every drop of your blood if possible... avoid them at all cost. Mpw then, if you wish to take a taxi, take the ones called TAXI LIBRE which are white with an orange stripe... and once you get in DEMAND that they turn on the meter by saying TAXIMETRO POR FAVOR... if they don't just get out and catch another, there will be no problem at all. Returning to the crossing the bridge part, be sure that you won't get lost, Tijuana appears to be a messed up agressive city but I've experienced only great people, therefore, if you get lost or feel lost just ask anyone who looks civilian or even a uniformed cop COMO LLEGO AL CENTRO? (KOMO eeEGO AL ZEN-TRo?). You'll see a lot of people walking like cattle so you won't get lost.

Good luck and have fun!
