wht tour company did the tour for $30 per person? that sounds really reasonable.

Not all that reasonable. You can take a bus that runs through the Golden Zone, along the Malecon and through downtown...and ends up right by the dock where you can take a boat over to the island for a buck or so. Then go to whatever restaurant you want and not have to put up with the tour.
This is a REALLY easy thing to do by yourself. Enjoy the island, it's great.
