hi,
i am staying in hurghada for a week
and would like to go to petra on a day trip,
but have know idea how to go about or if it's even possible?

will i be able to book it there as wev'e got a trip to cario booked but don't know which day untill will get there?
How much it will cost?
Can it be done in one day?
Can we go direct? (maybe by ferry)
or will we have to get a taxi to cairo or something?

if anyone can help it would be much appriciated,
and any info atall would be great

I think one can safely say that a day trip from Hurghada is not possible. Going Hurghada to Petra from there would include either taking a bus back to Cairo and catching a connecting bus to Taba from there (or taking a ferry to Sharm from Hurghada if one is running), then continuing on through Eilat/Israel to Aqaba, Jordan and then taking a taxi from there to Petra.

You could save a bit of time if you fly to Sharm from Hurghada, but you still won't be able to get there and back in one day.
If you want to enjoy Petra budget at least 2 full days there and one day each for getting there and back to Egypt if you start off from Cairo.

Essentially the only option for a day trip would be if there were charter flights to Aqaba from Cairo/Hurghada, but you're still unlikely to get back the same day - plus you wouldn't see much of Petra on such a short trip anyway.

Yes, this is a MINIMUM three day trip and probably four, since the ferries don't link up very well. As #1 says, make it a five day one to make the most of Petra.

Hurghada isn't really all that attractive for a week anyway!!!
