Hi,
at the end of August we will visit Botswana. We will 2 days in Okavango, 1 day in Moremi and 1 day in Chobe. Then we will 2 days in Victoria Falls. Do you think that is better use pills agains malaria? Is it malaria zone in August? For example in Namibia and South africa we didnīt see any mosquito in August, but I donīt know, how is it in Botswana, when there is water from Okavango. Thank you very much |

Here is the US Center for Disease Control's website on Malaria in southern Africa: www.cdc.gov/travel/regionalmalaria/safrica.htm
On Botswans specifically they say: "Risk north of 22°S in the northern provinces of Central, Chobe, Ghanzi, Ngamiland, and including safaris to the Okavango Delta area. No risk in the city of Gaborone." We were in Zambia, Botswana and Namibia last August and September and stayed on Malaria meds for the duration. Have fun! -Janine

Hi,
thank you very much for answer. If I understood well, you used antimalaria pills. Do you remember, if you met mosquitos in Botswana for example in Okavango, Chobe, Moremi? Thank you very much

I was in the Okavango in May of 2005. I was bitten by numerous mosquitos, even though I used insect repellent.

the nothern part of Bots is prone to Malaria including chobe and moremi, take antimalaria pills two weeks prior to your departure and two weeks after your departure.

We were in the Delta last month. It was very cold and we saw maybe 4 mosquitos the whole time. Regardless we took the malaria pills and used insect repellents. Suggest you do the same. Better safe than sorry.
