| Bogotá | Recomend Hostel Posted: Wed July 25, 2007 06:11 PM UTC
Can somebody recommend a hostel to stay in for a few nights.
Also one where you can wander around in the day and evening and go for a few dirnks or is it more advisable to get taxi's everywhere? Thanks |

Jesperp-stop making these comments to people who want to know something about Colombia. It's not the first time you do that.
FYI it is not unsafe whatsoever. I travel to Colombia 2-3 times a year. People who make comments like you are prejudiced because of their ignorance. If you want to know what the situation is like, speak to people who have been there/live there. About the hostal: Last December I stayed at Hostal Bogota Real for 2 weeks, you may want to check my Bogota (and Colombia) pages for more details.

As you may have read I stay in the H. Dann Norte when I am in BOG for only 1 to 3 days. Around that hotel are some bars/cafes/restaurants, on Pepe Sierra (Calle 116). When I stay longer I stay in the Hostal Bogota Real.
Safe and nice area is Zona Rosa, Zona T and the Parque 93. Restaurants, bars, cafes, discos. The centre is OK-Plaza Bolivar and the adjoining La Candelaria. The Gold Museum. In any case by day no problem-just take normal precautions. Transportation by taxi (that's what I do, especially evenings/night). Look at my Bogota (and Colombia) pages.

Hotel Sue or Hotel Platypus offer good social scenes in La Candelaria, near the city center. There's some decent night life nearby and some good restaurants close by also. I would suggest the police museum and its Pablo Escobar exhibit, which is interesting.
As for nightlife, near these hotels are some good bars, but the clubs and after hours spots are best in the zona rosa, although it is a bit posh if yer on a budget. Don't be dissuaded by people warning you about safety in colombia. Most people that give you that crap have NEVER BEEN TO COLOMBIA! Given the media in the US and Europe it is easy to feel like you're 'crazy' and 'out of your mind' going to colombia. For perspective, that is the same media that thinks stories about Paris Hilton are the real deal, captivating stories...
